EM•1® Case Study: Turf & Golf Courses

EM•1® can be used as a soil and foliar inoculant to grow lush, beautiful turf and maintain a healthier golf course. It can also be used to increase the growth rate of roots and grass for sod farms. EM•1® is a ready-to-use soil conditioner, comprised of Effective Microorganisms. EM•1® increases nutrient cycling in your soil and helps improve drainage, aeration, moisture retention and soil structure. Overall this decreases fertilizer requirements while improving growth and lushness.

Because EM•1® contains live microbes it also improves water permeability. The microbes go to work in the soil, increasing beneficial microorganisms and other organisms, this creates more pores for water and air. The increased permeability can decrease your water usage.

Apply EM•1® with a hose-end sprayer, backpack sprayer, or in the irrigation system if available. Apply once per week through the growing season for maintaining turf quality and health.

40 Gallons per Acre Total, spread over weekly or bi-weekly applications

2 Gallons per acre after Dethatching

Applying EM•1® can decrease the need for dethatching by increasing the breakdown of dead grass clippings.

If soils are compacted or showing signs of salt stress, add organic matter to the area before adding EM•1® to increase the soil health and loosen up the compaction.

Foliar applications should be applied in the morning or evening. Do not mix synthetic chemicals with the microbes in concentrated, non-diluted, form. EM•1® can be added after fertilizers are diluted with water. Many pesticides, such as Round-Up are antibiotic in nature and kill all the microbes within seconds of mixing. Therefore, if pesticides are to be used, please wait at least 48 hours between applications of pesticide and EM•1®.
